Simpler is better
If you read my writing, you probably have already noticed that I make things more complicated than they need to be.
Let me start over. I did it again.
I overcomplicate things. It is easy to have a new idea that is complex and difficult, the hard part is to make it simple. The famous quote “I would have written you a shorter letter but I did not have the time” comes to mind.
Simple is difficult. You boil away all the extra ideas and fluff to arrive at the essence of your thought… but actually doing that takes a long time. A really long time. I’ve written whole books that were complex messes, just to develop the idea, now years later I am still extracting the core ideas.
So tonight I want to refocus on the simple ideas, practice them and keep them simple, even as the rest of the overhaul fleshes out.
I’ll be devoting a page in my journal to these. If we are lucky they’ll be typed out soon.
