AI is going to be changing things fast… but nothing in education changes fast. As the tools get better and more becomes possible, the rush to offer our schools AI-powered tools. The only question is this: what will we build these tools to do?
My fear is that we will continue to do what we have done best – standardize and measure. My dream is that these tools can re-engage, show potential, lift ambitions, and bring a real joy of learning to our classrooms in new ways. It’ll take a creative implementation to pull that off … and the old way of thinking seems to reign supreme. The big money is in test scores (and raising them). If any edtech companies want a boatload of ideas for AI implementations for a creative classroom, I’m full of them!
